Hi,
We had a sales rep from HP tell us that Vertica can also be used as an OLTP. That is, he said we can create a schema that's set up in 3rd normal form as well as another schema using a star shema design all in the same database.
Has anyone tried this? We're thinking of tossing out our OLTP db and putting it into Vertica if that's feasible. Then we can get rid of one of our costliest db license.
Thanks,
Harold

Hi Harry!
For small databases may be, but it is not a good solution.
Transactions costs in Vertica much more expensive than in row-based RDBMS and you need quick response for OLTP.

I agree with sKwa. Vertica isn't great with a significant number of insert, update and delete statements. In fact, from our experience its terrible at them. Use Vertica for what it does best: "Real-Time Loading & Querying" and "Advanced In-Database Analytics". <<not a sales pitch >>
