Is fdb an Acronym?

Post by Tom M » Mon May 05, 2014 12:46 pm

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to Vertica and this is my first post. I found this site doing a search for fdb.

I was looking to see if fdb is acronym. I found a reference to Firebird, but I don't think that's it.

Does anyone know?

I've heard that pidx, which are files that "travel with fdb files" stands for position index.

Thanks for your help.

fdb refers to the files containing the actual data. There is a corresponding pidx file which has index & statistics on the data file. The fdb files are more commonly known as ROS containers. I would guess it stands for "file database."

Jim covers it more in this topic.
