Best practice for external database transfer to Vertica

Hi,

I know of a few ways to transfer an external db to Vertica however, I wanted to post this and hope I can get lots of replies. In your opinion, what is the best practice for transferring an external db over to Vertica. This external db could be an Oracle db, MySQL, whatever; I just want opinions from people about what worked well for them in each of these cases.
