Purge Process

Hy everybody ,
I have some doubts about how Vertica handles the delete during the margeout process ?
Corect me if i am wrong :
- Vertica never updates files !
- Vertica will always create vector on the delete records marked for delete !

So does vertica writes the vectors on a new file and when mergeout /purge runs the files are used to recreate the rest of the data left in the deleted objects table ?
