Create a new database on server cluster

Post by janice » Wed May 30, 2012 1:26 pm

Hi,

How can I create another database in Vertica so that I can have two running on the same cluster? To save $$$ in hardware costs we want to have a staging database on the same server as our test.

Thanks,
Janice

PS. I'm rather new to Vertica (only 2 months of experience so far).

Vertica does not support running more than one database per cluster.

Janice,

You can create another database on the same cluster, but never can run two database simultaneously.

Vertica does not recommend two databases running simultaneously on one server.
In order to save cost

You can think of alternatives like making different schemas for your staging data and setting different user level privileges to that schema.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I'll try the multiple schema idea where one schema will be for test and one for staging.
