Hi there,
I've been using the VSQL_PASSWORD environment variable for the root user (via its .bash_profile and .bashrc files) to define my the password for my Vertica dbadmin super user because I got lazy and didn't feel like typing in the password anymore when running vsql logged in as root.
I' m wondering now if this is safe/secure... Anyone else using this variable?
Using VSQL_PASSWORD... Is it safe?

Re: Using VSQL_PASSWORD... Is it safe?
Hi Juliette,
I am also using the VSQL_PASSWORD environment variable. Just make sure there are no other OS users that have access to root's .bashrc file (i.e. read access) and you should be okay.
Thanks!

Thanks, knicely87! So far I've not had any issue using this variable either. We have the root account locked down so I don't anticipate any issue in the future ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
