python 3 support in Vertica 7

Post by matthewcornell » Tue Dec 10, 2013 3:38 pm

Hi Folks. We are new to Vertica and excited to try it with our Python 3 programs. However, current (7.0.0) docs [1] indicate only 2.6 support. This is confusing to me because the current version of http://code.google.com/p/pyodbc/ is 3.0.7 (2013-05-19), but the supported version says 2.1.6 (2009-05-24) Is this correct that the latest driver supported is over four years old? This would be a deal breaker for us. Thank you.

Python 2.6.2
pyodbc 2.1.6

Thanks a ton for your reply, sKwa, and for being so helpful and responsive. That's all good to know. If we get the expected academic license, I'll try to remember to bring up your issues with them - maybe they'll be more responsive to us.
sKwa wrote: 1. Docs are inconsistent for this topic: https://community.vertica.com/vertica/t ... sion-thev4
2. Strongly recommended to use pyodbc 3.0.x and above and not what Vertica says.
From what I see: 99% Vertica do not tests drivers or some lazy employee do and every time reports that everything is ok

PS
Vertica support are horrible (they don't care for problems in Vertica if you are not a customer). For example: ODBC drivers has a well known minor bug (I know about it from version 5). I reported about it and nothing, no one care.
1. Take look here (3 month and no one care): https://community.vertica.com/vertica/t ... t_properly
2. Also, try via ODBC to run PROFILE <query> and you will get an exception. Why? Because Vertica reports that "PROFILE <query>" doesn't returns an output, but actually it does. I reported it also, but Im not a customer (Im just a fan of Vertica) so bug still exists.
