Vertica through powershell

Hello All,
This is very new to me.
I am trying to access Vertica through powershell. I know I need to use the ADO.net componenets while doing this.
Can anybody show a sample powershell program using ado.net componenets for opening a connection and fetching some info from database and showing the data.
It would be very useful to understand, if the commands are explained in brief.
