Upgrade Vertica cluster from 7.1.1-10 - tips ?

Post by chenshaulian » Wed Aug 03, 2016 2:58 pm

Hi,

We have Vertica cluster 7.1.1-10 on AWS and we want to upgrade our environment.
I have some questions:
- To which version is best to upgrade? I thought to 7.2 (and not 7.2.3), I want to install a stable version.
- What are the most significant upgrade?
- Any tips for upgrading? (what to check before? what to pay attention? backward compatibility)

Thanks :)

Hi,

The most stable version of Vertica, prior to release 8.0, is Vertica 7.2.3-8. This is the version you will get if you download Vertica 7.2.x from http://my.vertica.com. You can jump directly from 7.1.1-10 to 7.2.3-8.

This is the required upgrade path:
  • Vertica 7.0 to 7.1
  • Vertica 7.1 to 7.2
  • Vertica 7.2 to 8.0
If going to 7.2.3-8, make sure to perform the tasks listed on the following link prior to upgrading:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/7.2.x/HTML/ ... ertica.htm

Check out the 7.2.3-x release notes here:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/ReleaseNote ... tm#7.2.3-8

Check out the 7.2.x New Features here:
https://my.vertica.com/docs/7.2.x/HTML/ ... n7.2.3.htm

As far as backward compatibility, check out the deprecated and retired functionality links here:

Retired:
