Hi,
I have a question.
There is no way to connect the ODBC for windows(vsql 6.0) to vertica 6.0.
Please let me know what I can do without downgrading version(vsql4.1).
Thanks & regards
Jay Han.

Hello,
Sorry, but I don't understand what you meant by this:
Example from the command prompt on Windows XP:
Are you getting an error? If so, what is it?
Thanks!
Sorry, but I don't understand what you meant by this:
vsql uses ODBC. If you download and install the Windows Client 32-Bit or 64-bit 6.0.1 driver, it includes the vsql executable that can be used to connect to a Vertica 6 database. There is no way to connect the ODBC for windows(vsql 6.0) to vertica 6.0
Example from the command prompt on Windows XP:
Code: Select all
C:\>vsql --version
vsql version v6.0.0, built for Windows 32 bit
C:\>vsql -h vertica01 -U jimk -w *********
Welcome to vsql, the Vertica Analytic Database interactive terminal.
Type: \h for help with SQL commands
\? for help with vsql commands
\g or terminate with semicolon to execute query
\q to quit
jknicely=> select version();
version
------------------------------------
Vertica Analytic Database v6.0.0-3
(1 row)
Thanks!

Re: ODBC driver for widnows (vsql6.0) issue
Hi,
I think client's OS(version:Windows Home Edition K 32bit) doesn't be supported to vsql6.0 for windows(Vertica version v.6.0.1).
I have sent the mail to vertica support team.
If I solve the problem, I'll comment it.
Thanks!

Re: ODBC driver for widnows (vsql6.0) issue
Hi!
[sarcasm]
Of course - it doesn't be supported. Why you didn't tried Windows Starter Edition or a free edition for Africa,
where you can simultaneously to run only 3 tasks, and of course there no way to connect the ODBC for windows(vsql 6.0) to vertica 6.0
(forget about 64 bit connection and many posts how to connect - just NO WAY).
[/sarcasm]
PS
Vertica is 64 bit, so you will require 64 bit emulation for connection.
Windows Home Edition have no such ability, if I'm remember right, only from Professional edition or Home Premium windows has environment emulators.

Hi,
I was confusing you.
Restate the environment.
It have been tested on Windows 7 Home Premium K (32bit).
Of course using vsql 4.1 successfully connected to vertica.

Re: ODBC driver for widnows (vsql6.0) issue
Hi Jay Han!
Now it's look on 180 degrees different.
But help me to understand it little more, because it's can be Vertica's issue or your's - the are no such creature - "vsql 4.1", vsql for windows was released only with Vertica 6.0 , so what do you try to do? And also can you clarify: windows native vsql client or vsql client via cgwin.
PS: If you successfully connected (whatever you say) with vsql 4.1 and did not with 6.0 on he same machine/host - so 99% it's Vertica's issue and problem not in env. emulators as I thought before. I this case I suggest to open ticket.
