Does anyone know why the installation guide states that LVM is not supported?
We'd like to use LVM'd disks for backup, not for data/catalog usage, so maybe the restriction doesn't apply?

Re: LVM not supported
Hi,
I think they simply mean they won't support you if you have issues with the LVM because it hasn't been "extensively" tested.
At least that's what I gather from this doc:
http://www.vertica.com/wp-content/uploa ... ion_DS.pdf
They write:

They write:
There is a foot note to that statement:Supported file systems Extensively tested on all supported Linux platforms running ext3 or ext4 file systems.
Notice the foot notes says "Community Edition". Odd considering the PDF's title contains "...Enterprise_Edition..."While other file systems have been successfully deployed by some customers, HP cannot guarantee performance or stability of the product on these file systems. In certain support situations, you may need to migrate from these untested file systems to help you troubleshoot or fix an issue. HP Vertica Community Edition does not support Linux Logical Volume Manager (LVM).

Re: LVM not supported
Thanks, had confirmation from Vertica support on this
"It's specifically for Data and Catalog that we say LVM's not supported but backup files should be OK."
