assigning a new ip to spread

Post by potluri27 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 12:52 pm

HI ,

we are experiencing spread down issue every day
we have planned to seperate spread from vertica .
hence planned to assign a new ip to spread.
thus spread will have a diffent ip and vertica will have different ip.

Lets us say you get new card with IP 192.168.1.x series
add network card having this ips, then stop db,
run "/opt/vertica/sbin/install_vertica -r vertica_6.0.x.x86_64.SUSE10.rpm -S 192.168.1.255".

my question is does not it required host names in the cluster, how do it know how many hosts in the cluster ?

should i run : /opt/vertica/sbin/install_vertica -r vertica_6.0.x.x86_64.SUSE10.rpm -S 192.168.1.255

or

/opt/vertica/sbin/install_vertica -r vertica_6.0.x.x86_64.SUSE10.rpm -S 192.168.1.255 -s host01,host02,host03,host04

which method is correct ??

please advise !

thanks,
Srikanth
