Vertica on LVM

Post by Timbo » Fri Dec 13, 2013 12:01 pm

Hi,
Does anyone run Vertica on LVM?
Just curious as our installations of Vertica have been running on LVM for the last 4-5 years without any problems.
Been through the version 4 and 5 installation documentaion, there is no mention that LVM is not supported, that is only mentioned in the version 6 and 7 installation guide.

Anyone know why it is not supported?

Tim

Hi

we have also been running vertica on top of LVM for about 2-3 years without noticeable problems.

But sometimes we have a problem that backup(using vbr.py) hangs for many hours. If usually full backup of our 3 nodes (raw data ~4T) takes 2-3 hours, then in some random days it takes 12 or even more hours. I'm sure, that amount of data is almost same and at that time there is no extraordinary load on servers..
This case has been up in vertica support for many month and now they say, that our problem could be a LVM. Now we are considering to move vertica away from LVM..

Regards,
Lauri

Hi,
We are also moving off LVM, the UNIX SA's are not happy :D
But this in not due to any problems, just to make sure we are compliant :(

Tim
