Global Catalog and X Locks

1) What does "Global Catalog" refer to exactly? The manual describes it as a cluster-wide system structure (whereas Local Catalog is at the node level). Is that a collective reference to system tables?
2) Does the GlobalCatalog X lock on a long-running analyze_statistics process mean that if someone else does a create table or a grant (which also have Global Catalog X locks), then they will have to wait for the analyze_statistics to complete?
