I'm very curious how other organizations backup their environments (if at all). I know there are many variables to this such as SLAs, but is there a general guideline? I read one idea to backup locally while shifting nodes. I'm very curious how Facebook deals with petabytes of data.

For instances where backups aren't taken, what components should be backed up (catalog, config, etc.)?

How many backups do you keep?
Where ? On local machine? On other ?
If you copy/move the backup files on other location or if you take the backup on other machine, is the connectivity between vertica node affected in this period ?
