Recover Backup from One Cluster to Another

Post by Julie » Wed Sep 18, 2013 6:51 pm

Hi,

Is it possible to restore a backup taken using the vbr.py utility from one cluster (i.e. a staging cluster) and to a new prod cluster. They do not have the same database name. They have the same number of nodes but the nodes have different IP addresses.

I was wondering if I could just edit all the ini files in the backup to point to the new cluster? Or will there be some sort of issue with the Vertica internal tables after the restore?
Thanks,
Juliette

HI!

It's possible. You can change ip's of nodes in snapshot catalog to another.

How to edit catalog you can read here (if you will need a help with it - ask):

I recommend to read whole thread, somehow its refers to your question.

PS

And this is can be a problem, depends how Vertica generates OIDs
