Hi, We have a column defined in a Vertica table as numeric(12, 5). In this column we can store numbers as large as 9999999.99999. This error indicates that the user executing the query has a memory cap setting that is insufficient for this query. The query will need about 2.5GB and the user has a max memory cap of 1GB. The ability to drop a column will be a feature in the next release of Vertica. Until then, there is a work around involving creating a new table without the column, copying the data from the old table to the new table, dropping the old table and then renaming the new table to the old table name. I heard Vertica 5.1.0 will be released in early spring. Although its labeled as a minor upgrade, it will include a new GUI. We've been using Toad for Data Analysts. The new GUI is supposed to be a graphical version of the dbadmin tools.
